Ski resort guide
Your off season is getting ready to become a thing of the past. It’s just been confirmed, and it’s time to get excited. This can be a snow sliders dream become a reality. The terrain, the snow, the glory is getting ready to be yours.
Located in British Columbia (about an hour south of Invermere), the Jumbo Glacier project recently been approved. Jumbo Glacier Resort nestled inside the mountain ranges of Glacier Valley will provide year round skiing on 100% natural snow due to four large glaciers: Farnham, Commander, Jumbo, and Glacier Dome and the resorts perch at nearly 1,75 meters (5, 627 feet for those who don’t remember 4th grade math). The website proudly boasts, “It snows here.” And i also must say that yes, yes it will.
The location of Jumbo Glacier is great for creating the best winter-time conditions. Protected from the humid climate from the Pacific and cold Arctic air have a tendency to invades Banff National Park, the soon-to-be resort promises huge annual snowfalls with a huge selection of windless, sunny days throughout the year. With nearly 5, 672 vertical feet of ski-able terrain in the winter months and an incredible 2, 300 feet in the summer (au natural I might add), Jumbo Glacier aims to demolish your off season plans. Seriously, 2,300 feet? That’s comparable to what many resorts around here get in winter.
What’s more, the resort hopes to offer the first and only all year round ski training facilities for all you hard-core extremists out there.
Your Summer Re-imagined
There’s also the stunning 360 degree vistas, a serrated horizon of mountain ranges and glacier fields, and so on and so on. And let’s not forget the economic opportunities the resort can provide for those living in the valley. In general, they’re making it sound like Ullr’s post season gift to mankind. Whether or not or not the future resort lives approximately the hype, it’s a great way to start my post ACL dreaming.
Now, there are always two sides to each story. And there is definitely some heated opposition towards the resort based primarily on environmental grounds. You can read more about the opposition towards the project here. I understand the last thing that I wants is some mega-resort to appear overnight in my favorite backcountry/wilderness area. There will be something brilliant and beautiful about unspoiled mountain landscapes absent from your crowds, the marketing, the generators… However, its also impossible to overlook the economical benefits Jumbo Glacier Resort would bring to the surrounding community, not forgetting the incredible opportunities the resort offers to skiers, boarders, and various other snow sliders around the globe.
Check it out here, get excited, and then, let us know what you think - will be the development of this resort something to be celebrated? For those of us struggling to hit the link button, listed here are the stats:
